Balancing My Budget and Thinking In Shape
Feeling good! Actually kind of pumped. I took the whole day down yesterday. Stayed in my bedroom, did a little writing, crashed my website’s CMS (Content Management System) – Your Welcome Dan!

You know you need one of these but you can’t have mine. He’s not just a cute CD case, he’s my travel companion. He goes with me everywhere and I’ve grown very attached to him.

At the end of the day I didn’t get past the first item on my list. That in itself turned out to be a big task. The rest gets pushed to tomorrow, which is another day filled with light and time and opportunities. The good news is the time I did spend today on my own budget was time well spent. I manage a budget here that would make Harvard MBA’s heads spin. It’s quite complex. There are 24 tabs. Money flows from the business to the personal, there are assumptions in there about how many hours each bookkeeper will bill and of course assumptions about my own hours. Within the first 2 weeks of every month I do what I did today which is to take my QuickBooks files (personal and business) and export the “actual” numbers to be dropped into my spreadsheet. Those numbers are compared with what I had projected to be sure I haven’t left anything off. Turns out I left off the Property taxes due next April. Oops! That throws things off. I also did a quick tax projection to see what I will likely owe next April and realized I am not paying in enough. The beauty of doing this of course is that seeing this now gives me time to react and make sure it is more than covered between now and Dec. Most people scramble in the months between Jan and April to figure out how they are going to pay what they owe.
So by 6pm I was exhausted from balancing my budget and it was time to go and see a friend at Chabad (the rehab I went through 11 years ago) take a cake for being sober for 30 years. It was great to get out and be in that environment. For one thing it always reminds me of how grateful I need to be for the life I have today.
On another note I’ve been thinking a log about my weight. I really want to get into better shape, lose the weight and generally be more athletic like I was in high school. So I didn’t hang around, didn’t even have any cake. I came straight back home to a wife who was pleasantly surprised to see me home so quickly. Normally I would have gone out to eat or something. Now here I am finishing this up and getting ready to post ads on Craigslist. It’s not nearly as effective as it used to be, but it does still generate some leads!
