Happy Birthday to the Most Amazing Wife Ever!
I met my wife while working at my second job in California. I was a senior accountant at The Veterinary Centers of America and she was a manager at one of the hospitals. We started off talking on the phone for work related reasons and the conversations evolved into personal ones. One night while we were talking I was heading down to San Diego to see a friend’s for the weekend and I suggested that if she wanted to continue speaking to please call my cell in a few hours. I had to go home, pack, and get on the road.
I was surprised when she called. I thought she might think it was a little weird when I asked her to call. We spoke the whole trip down to San Diego. From Los Angeles that’s about 2.5 hours. Our friendship continued to evolve. There was one day where I was stressed out because I had no money and I had my car in to find out what was wrong. I was worried I couldn’t afford to pay for the repairs. I think she called me every hour that day to remind me that everything was going to be ok.
Over the years she has become and has remained the best friend I’ve ever had. I can speak to her about anything and the most important thing is that all these years later, the conversation is still there. I know that as we grow old we will still have things to share with one another because our relationship is much deeper than physical and it isn’t about money. We got together before either one of us had any and we have worked together and supported one another as we’ve built Nerd Enterprises, Inc. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to give up, get a job and tell all of my clients I am very sorry. She has been my rock in all of this, always reminding me how miserable I was working for someone else and how all I had to do was go and to the best job I can for clients and then take the check home. If I was out there dating now it would be difficult if not impossible to know if my girlfriend and then my wife was interested in me for me or based on more superficial things. I am grateful that I met my wife when I met her and that we have the relationship that we have because I know that ours is based on US and not on anything else.
Today I look forward to seeing my wife every day when I come home. She is still my best friend and the only regret that I have these days is that I don’t get to spend more time with her.
