I don’t really watch a lot of music video. A lot of what I listen to is just that, listening while I am doing something else. When I was about a year or year and a half clean/sober I went with a friend to see Nine Inch Nails play at Arrowhead Pond (now Honda Center) here in California and I realized why I never really liked to go see live music even though I love to listen to music. It’s because for me music is a background thing and I really don’t know what to do with myself while I am standing there and watching the band play. Now what I really enjoy is going go a place like The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood and watching guys like Jim Bianco play. I suppose it’s because in the Cafe setting I am sitting for one thing and I can enjoy talking with people and watching the show up close and personal. That really appeals to me.
What I really like about this video is first of all the identification with my youth. I loved Duran Duran when I was a kid. It’s amazing how many songs I forgot about and when I listen to them now they bring back so many memories. The next thing I like about this video is how he brings on other singers. I LOVE the woman who sings Notorious with him at about #23:00. I also love the video overlays in this. It makes it interesting so that I am not just watching the band play their instruments. Like I said I don’t watch many videos so for all I know there is a lot out there much better than this, but for several reasons this one got my attention. I watched a bit of it the other night and I am watching the rest of it now as I write this and doing some other work.
Were you a fan of Duran Duran when you were younger? Now?
