My name is Seth and I started Nerd Enterprises, Inc. in Jan 2003. By that time I was working with a few companies maintaining their QuickBooks and also consulting with companies creating and developing the things they needed in MS Excel. Whether it was a form with drop-downs, or a macro driven process, or data analysis using pivot tables.
I worked at a CPA firm that specialized in Bankruptcy. This had me thinking about a question my wife has often asked me because many clients come to us initially with a financial mess.
What makes a company reach this point where everything is all a mess?
My initial answer of course is that not everyone is an accountant. Not everyone is an expert with QuickBooks. In fact most business owners are neither expert with QuickBooks nor accounting nor bookkeeping professionals. Most of them are experts in something else – in whatever products or services they sell. So what happens is that they set out to do what they are experts in. By the time they start worrying about their QuickBooks file or more generally their accounting and bookkeeping it is too late. Not too late to fix it, but too late to simply start it off the right way. This is where we come in.
I fill the gaps between what the business owner does and what QuickBooks does.
I also help many bookkeepers including our own take things to the next level.

So this is my Blog designed to help people who either cannot afford to hire someone or otherwise just want some great tips and information without having to spend a fortune (or anything for that matter).

Technology – I use technology to get the QuickBooks help that we offer out there as much as possible. Accordingly we will talk about how we do that, what we use and how you might use it to help your business grow.
Social Media – If you got here then there is a good chance it was because of what I’ve learned about how to develop my business presence in Social Media. In fact this very Blog is the culmination of a little more than a year’s worth of learning and experimentation. This is the final frontier- at least for now

Finance – One of the things which has become apparent working with business ranging from $100,000 to literally $20,000,000 in revenues is that behind each of them lies one or more human owners. These people need financial planning just like their business does and I can provide that. In the same manner that I track cash inflows and outflows for a business, we can track it for an individual. With my team in place, we can plan it, project it and monitor it. It works exactly the same as for a business – the only thing that changes generically is the descriptions.
Getting and Staying Organized – this is something I am really good at. My friends and colleagues have even described me as formidable in this regard because I am highly responsible, organized, and focused on getting the job done. So you will see blog posts in this category that will offer you suggestions for how you might use some of the tools I use in order to to this.
Business – What is going on in the world of business in general? I like to keep up on the newsworthy fortune 500 level business news because I think as small business owners we can learn a lot here. I spent 1/2 hour recently watching a video on www.meettheboss.tv and I learned a tremendous amount in a short time. I will do my best to pass that kind of knowledge along here.
